At Mojave Desert Skin Shield, we pride ourselves in being a wellness brand rooted in the ancient traditions of Ayurveda. Dating back at least 3,000 years, Ayurveda is a traditional Indian holistic system of medicine for the mind, body, and being.  The word is derived from Sanskrit, with “ayur” meaning life and “veda” meaning knowledge.  Translating to the knowledge of life, Ayurveda is designed through the belief that everything is connected; general health and wellness is reached by keeping your inner and outer being in harmonious flow.  Here are a few key best wellness practices from the wealth of Ayurveda.

Organic, Natural Ingredients

Most Ayurvedic skincare products and ingredients are food grade, and may be easily found right at home in your own kitchen.  The reason for this is the belief that anything you put on top of your skin should be safe enough for you to put within your body as well.  The skin is our largest organ; we should be just as concerned with what we use to nourish it as we are with the food we consume.

Care for Body

In order for the body to be working at its highest level, it needs to be cared for properly.  In Ayurveda, the digestive system is crucial to ensuring that the body is in proper flow, which in turn will translate to the body flowing on the outside as well. This includes nourishing the body from within by way of hydration and a healthy, nutrient-rich diet.  Exercise and yoga are also important elements in keeping the body in flow, the latter of which promotes mindfulness and a glow that radiates from within.

Dry Massage

In Ayurveda, dry massage is a practice utilized to promote detoxification and balance of the entire body.  Using a dry, often handheld brush, it involves sweeping the body in gentle, circular movements across the top of the skin.  In addition to lightly exfoliating the skin and removing dead cells, dry brushing also works to stimulate lymphatic drainage and circulation throughout the body.

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling may be one of the most well known Ayurvedic practices, and for good reason.  It is the technique of swishing oil around the mouth for the purpose of removing bacteria and toxins, as well as improving one’s overall oral health.  Oil pulling can be done using a variety of different oils; sesame, olive, and coconut oil tend to be the most popular.  This is often followed by scraping the tongue to remove the layer of cells and bacteria that accumulate on top, leaving the mouth clean and refreshed.

At Mojave Desert Skin Shield, we have delved deep into the research of Ayurveda to create our own combination, best oil for pulling. The Organic Detoxifying Pulling Oil is composed of high quality plant essences and oils, utilizing the best coconut oil for pulling, avocado oil, apricot kernel oil, as well as traditional sesame oil pulling. The result is a flavorful blend that effectively cleanses the mouth of toxins while also supporting the removal of stains and buildup. Additionally, this oil pulling detox retains its ingredients’ soothing properties to gently rejuvenate the gums and teeth. With refreshing notes of peppermint, clove, and grapefruit, our Organic Detoxifying Pulling Oil is a delicious way to purify the mouth and body.

Purchase of our Pulling Oil includes a small cup, as well as a copper tongue scraper.
